Adolescent Treatment Learning Series

This video learning series were created in partnership with the Utah State Youth Treatment Implementation Grant of the Utah Department of Human Services – Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health and the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Utah. The video series consists of four learning video sections (created in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021) and cover a range of topics related to understanding, preventing, and treating adolescent substance use. The video series was designed to provide information on foundational concepts and best practice to providers, educators, adolescents, and parents/caregivers with the goal of improving the lives of youth.

The 2021 learning video section discusses topics such as engaging adolescents in treatment, prevalence of adolescent substance use, effects of substance use on the brain/body, and other mental health concerns related to substance use. The 15 videos in this series were developed for three audiences: 1) Providers, 2) Adolescents, and 3) Parents/Caregivers. The videos were designed to address topics for each audience and present relevant information in a brief video format (typically 4-6 minutes).

The 2020 learning video section discusses the substance use rates and potential consequences of the most commonly used substances by Utah adolescents, the development of a substance use disorder, and the framework and implementation of a multi-tiered behavioral and mental health system of support within schools.

The 2019 learning video section explores the substance use rates and common effects of a variety of substances among Utah adolescents, highlights the differences in treatment engagement among adolescents, and examines the outcomes of culturally adapted treatments for adolescent substance use.
