Suicide Prevention

Suicide is a leading cause of death in Utah. Each year we lose too many family members, friends, neighbors and coworkers to suicide. 97% of Utahns know someone who has had thoughts of suicide, has attempted or died by suicide.  We know that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover from suicidal thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Resources

There are many resources to support Utahns struggling with thoughts of suicide.

Together we can make a difference to prevent suicide by providing caring, culturally appropriate, and evidenced-based interventions. We can promote acceptance, respect, healing and recovery. Suicide is a complex problem, with no single solution.  Our health and behavioral health systems, schools, workplaces, and communities need to collectively work together to implement best practices for suicide prevention.

Comprehensive suicide prevention

Suicide is a complex public health problem. It takes all Utahns, governments, businesses, agencies and organizations working together to save lives.  It must be addressed broadly through prevention, intervention and postvention.

Training

Suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention trainings are available. You can learn more to support your family, friends, coworkers and neighbors.
